Obscene profits?

Back in September of 2005 I blogged about the price of gas which was on the cusp on exceeding $3.00 per gallon.

Last week I paid 3.99/9 for gas in Canoga Park. Ah, the good old days, because now, in my part of the San Fernando valley, gas cannot be found for lower than $4.00.


I paid 4.27/9 for gas this morning in Woodland Hills. Across the street, a "no-name" gas station was selling regular for 4.34/9.

I don't know if oil companies are making obscene profits, but something sure does seem to be out of control here. There must be something wrong when a gallon of gas is the same price as a gallon of milk...

Prophylactic fueling

I did something today I don't ever remember doing before.

Because I consider getting gas a chore, I never get gas until I "need it". This usually means my gas gauge is hovering somewhere around (or below, if I've timed it badly) the "E" mark.


But this morning, as I was driving to work, with more than a half a tank of gas, I saw a station selling gas at 2.88/9. I had just passed a station not a quarter mile away that was 2.97/9. That, combined with the stories of prices due to go up again because of Hurricane Rita, made me pull into the station and fill up.

2.88/9. And I feel like I got a bargain! I remember going with my Dad to fill up the family car when gas was .29/9...
