Adventures in Packaging: Episode 4 [Posted by Dave Haber on Saturday, 05/15/10 10:10 am] [Permalink] [Full Blog] [Tweet This]Continuing in our series of dumb things printed on food boxes, today I offer for your amusement, Totino's Pizza Rolls.
Here, again, another useless serving suggestion is being suggested. What are they suggesting with this picture? That we should eat these pizza rolls while they are floating in space, while orbiting the Sun?
But, this serving suggesting is not, by far, the most interesting instructional text on the box. Notice, in the lower-left-hand corner the emphatic instructions:
What!? Keep frozen AND cook thoroughly? I can't do them both! Why does the fast food industry insist on torturing me so?

Adventures in Packaging: Episode 3 [Posted by Dave Haber on Monday, 01/26/09 8:19 pm] [Permalink] [Full Blog] [Tweet This] Almost every pre-packaged food that includes a picture of the food on the box includes the wording "Serving Suggestion." Most times, this disclaimer, while still overly-obvious, does seem to be warranted, as in this package, from Tyson chicken nuggets:
As you could imagine, the box of nuggets does not include dipping sauce, macaroni or any other side dish, and no sprig of parsley.
However, this box of DiGiorno frozen pizza also includes the text "Serving Suggestion" on the front of the box:
What, exactly, is this box suggesting with it's "Serving Suggestion?" That you should serve the pizza on a non-descript, red surface? Would that make the pizza taste better?

More adventures in packaging [Posted by Dave Haber on Monday, 06/12/06 10:31 pm] [Permalink] [Full Blog] [Tweet This] OK. I've bought this product several times but I just noticed this one.
So, is this sandwich New York style or Philadelphia style? I'm confused!
These are very tasty, by the way. I just wish they could pick a city I'm supposed to be thinking of when I'm eating it...

How stupid do they think we are? [Posted by Dave Haber on Monday, 02/27/06 7:39 pm] [Permalink] [Full Blog] [Tweet This] I was making some pasta for dinner tonight, when I noticed something printed on the top of the box that struck me as strange.
I concede that the text printed on the top of the box to the effect of "Lift Tab To Open" is basically helpful and instructive, but on the part of the box underneath the aforementioned tab, it also says "To Close Insert Tab Here". Those seemed to me to be unnecessary instructions, and to my chagrin, upon closer examination of my pantry, I found two more boxes that had the exact same brain-dead instructions:
The top image is from a box of Creamette pasta, below that is a box from Barilla pasta, and the lower-most image is from a box of Pop-Secret popcorn.
Who can't figure out what that strategically placed perforated slot is for without written instructions? How stupid do they think we are?
At least the one on the Barilla box is properly punctuated...
